Lacell Grand Opening 10th February 2010

A New Name in Nonwoven Production

A new Finnish airlaid product factory, called Lacell Oy was started at the beginning of February and the production began without any problems. The turn key production line has the latest technology. The machinery was installed by the Finnish company Anpap Oy. True to the investment plan, the factory will be ready on time for the second phase and increasing its productivity.

The new factory, situated between Lahti and Kouvola in Iitti, can produce thermo-, binder- and combi-bonded products. Lacell Oy is going to compete with its rivals with its ability to produce exactly what the customer needs, down to limited production runs and the ability to change product types very quickly. With the latest technology it is possible to produce more products using less raw material.

“We have an active dialogue with our customers so that we know what
type of expectations they have, and what kind of products they want to promote. When we develop our products, we involve our customers, the suppliers of raw materials, and ourselves”, says the Managing Director of Lacell Oy, Risto Tamminen.

Consumers value the image of green biodegradable wood-based products, and a completely closed production process, and ecological energy solutions support this image.
The growing market in Europe, new products and the disappearance of old production methods has affected new production in a positive way. A further possibility will be the attractive Russian market, which could be a major factor for exports in the near future.

Lacell Oy’s future plans centre around Finland and Scandinavia, which it recognises as an important market area.
The aim is to be the market leader in the near future. European and Baltic countries are also areas, where Lacell Oy aims to find new small or middle-sized customers, by making products for personal hygiene, kitchen hygiene, wipes, napkins, packaging, filter elements and hospital use.

“The big producers in Europe have further streamlined the processing of raw materials leaving a position in the market for a medium-sized independent flexible producer”, says Tamminen.
